Last week, we went over the Alkaline Health Matrix, explaining the importance of balance in gut health, neuro-musculo-skeletal health, and brain health, and how these areas collectively work together to create harmony in our bodies.
Today, I want to discuss nutrient deficiency caused by medications.
I know that many of you are taking medication of some sort, whether it be temporary antibiotics, antacids, pain meds, or more long term cholesterol lowering meds, diabetic meds, etc.
Let me be very clear about nutritional deficiency and its impact on our health and balance. Nutrient deficiency can cause a host of problems because it robs our cells of the proper building blocks they need to not only function, but to heal.
Just so you understand the implications of nutrient deficiency I’ve included a short list of common meds and their effects:
Antacids can cause deficiencies in vitamin B12, folic acid, vitamin D, calcium, iron and zinc. This may result in a host of symptoms, such as anemia, depression, fatigue, and weakness, cervical dysplasia, osteoporosis, weakness, blood pressure irregularities, hair loss, and sexual dysfunction.
After a dose of antibiotics, failure to re-inoculate the GI tract with beneficial bacteria (probiotics) often results in dysbiosis, causing gas, bloating, decreased digestion and absorption of nutrients, and a variety of other health problems.
You can end up with cramps due to magnesium deficiency, and depression, sleep disturbance, weakened immune system, and sexual dysfunction due to vitamin B6 and zinc deficiencies.
3. Cholesterol Lowering Drugs
Those of you on cholesterol lowering drugs can expect a weak immune system and low energy due to CoQ10 deficiency.
4. Hormone Replacement Therapy
And for those of you on hormone replacement therapy, depression, sleep disturbance, irritability, muscle weakness, edema, lowered immune system, and accelerated aging are possible threats due to vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B1, B2, B6 and 12, vitamin C, magnesium, selenium, and zinc deficiencies.
Now, anti-inflammatories can cause blood pressure irregularities, osteoporosis, muscle weakness, hearing loss, cramps, weak immune system, depression, accelerated aging, elevated blood sugar, high cholesterol, fatigue, and possible problems with skin, liver, and nerves due to deficiencies in calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and 12, folic acid, selenium, chromium, and vitamin B5
Going back to the point of this video, I understand that most of us from time to time do rely on medications. They’re not all bad, but they give us a reason to rethink our options. Don’t be so quick to take a pill for every ill. I’ve helped thousands of patients manage their symptoms through natural remedies. If you do decide to take it, don’t rely on them long term.
